Temple Emmanuel of Wakefield’s Hebrew School will kick off its second year this September with the addition of veteran Jewish educator Brenda Dolan, who will lead the curriculum and classes for students ages 5-13 years old.
Temple Emmanuel’s Hebrew School offers a stimulating and friendly environment where children can embrace their Jewish roots, regardless of their level of observance or affiliation. With the involvement of Temple Emmanuel’s Rabbi Greg Hersh, Brenda will teach the following classes each week from September 2020 through June 2021:
- Ages 5-7: A weekly Sunday morning class for children who are getting started with their Jewish education, which focuses on introducing basic Jewish prayers and Hebrew and English songs, along with holiday and Torah-themed activities.
- Ages 8-13: A weekly Wednesday afternoon class OR Tuesday afternoon class every other week for students who are building upon their foundational Jewish education and are interested in becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah, which includes an innovative curriculum of Hebrew instruction, Torah study and discussion, and singing, among other fun activities.
- Bar/Bat Mitzvah Age: Students ages 12-13 are encouraged to attend a second class each week with Rabbi Greg Hersh to focus on Bar and Bat Mitzvah preparation, including reading from the Torah.
“We are excited to have Brenda join us to build on the success of our growing Hebrew School,” said Rabbi Greg. “Her approach to learning is fun and interactive, and is paired with her extensive background with youth education, the Jewish religion and Hebrew.”
Brenda added: “I am deeply passionate about sharing my love of Judaism with our Hebrew School students. I look forward to teaching at the school and learning with the Temple Emmanuel community.”
Specific timing and location for all classes (virtual through Zoom and in-person at the Temple) will be determined with participating families to accommodate scheduling needs.
